Grab a coffee and stay awhile — I’m sharing a little about the journey that brought me here, doing work I truly love.

Before I entered the world of virtual assistance, I was standing in front of a whiteboard, teaching eight- and nine-year-olds in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. I loved connecting with my students, creating learning experiences, and being part of their growth, but over time, I began to feel that something wasn’t quite aligning.

A few years later, I packed up my life and moved across the world to Hong Kong to continue teaching, this time in an English learning centre. It was an exciting new chapter and, in many ways, a bold leap. But even in this new environment, I found myself wrestling with the same realisation: the demands of teaching — the energy, the pace, the structure — were no longer a good fit for the life I wanted to build and the future I envisioned for myself and my family.

I knew I needed to pivot. I craved flexibility, creativity, and meaningful work that played to my strengths. I started asking myself, What lights me up? What do I actually enjoy doing day-to-day? The answer surprised me at first: I genuinely enjoy administrative tasks. Organising, planning, scheduling, editing, supporting — I find peace and purpose in the details that many people dread.

That’s when I discovered the world of virtual assistance.

It felt like everything clicked. I could bring my skills in communication, organisation, and problem-solving into a new kind of role; one where I could still support and serve others, but in a way that gave me more balance and freedom.

Now, as a Virtual Assistant, I get to partner with passionate business owners, help them stay organised and productive, and take tasks off their plate so they can focus on what they love. I’m still teaching in a sense — sharing tools and strategies, helping others grow — but from a different kind of “classroom.”

This blog, Notes from the Virtual Desk, is my space to share more about this journey, the tools I use, lessons I’ve learned, and what it’s like to run a business with heart. I’m so glad you’re here.

Here’s to new chapters, fresh coffee, and following the path that lights you up. ✨
